These notes on Jemez Mountains fishing are excerpted from the Friends of Fenton Lake articles that appear in the After the Thunder newspaper published in Jemez Springs. They provide a window into Jemez fishing as a function of time and are reported twice a month.
Winter fishing in the lower Jemez River has been good for stocked rainbow trout. The week ending 2/15 the Jemez River received 1,524 stocked Triploid Rainbow trout. River flows have averaged about 22 cfs, but a low water event the day before Valentine's Day brought flows down to 13 cfs, but flows recovered to the low ‘20’s the next day. For those who hunt wild fish we are close to the beginning of spring brown trout fishing – start getting your gear ready – March is just around the corner. For those that tie their own flies now is the time to stock up on classic early season nymphs (Pheasant Tails, Perdigons, etc.) and eggs.
