Jemez Adventures Short Fishing Notes – October 1, 2024

These notes on Jemez Mountains fishing are excerpted from the Friends of Fenton Lake articles that appear in the After the Thunder newspaper published in Jemez Springs. They provide a window into Jemez fishing as a function of time and are reported twice a month. 

Stocking of Jemez waters has been a bit sparse of late, the result of low water, forest infrastructure projects (Yay!), and the time of year. Classic winter stockings in the lower Jemez River will increase as the weather worsens! This is actually a fun fishery that many have come to enjoy.  It is typically in full swing by Thanksgiving. 

Water levels will be improving soon and there will be a  period this month when the fishing for wild brown trout similarly improves. The lower reaches of the San Antonio, East Fork, and Guadalupe Rivers should have some good days left before winter is fully in charge.
