DRIVES

Taking a scenic mountain drive is one of the most relaxing ways to explore the Jemez, and Famous Jemez Drives was designed to help do just that!  Pick a drive from the 15 offered, turn to that drives' page, and find:

• Drive Features & Fun Stops, their distances from the Start point, total Drive Time, & Altitude Range.

• A Drive map, road conditions, 2WD vs. 4WD.

• Drive photos, directions, and drive specific notes (see example map page on right).

Take a lunch, drinks and snacks.  Go prepared - gas up, wear hats, check weather, and be alert to forest risks such as bears, washouts, elk, puddles, & bad weather.  Enjoy and explore the Santa Fe National Forest Western Division (the Jemez) in an intimate and fun way:

• Wade in the streams, hike around the lakes

• See gorgeous canyons, mesas, tent rocks, & hoodoos

• View (don't touch) ancient ruins

• Hike a slot canyon, see a 60 foot waterfall
